Lewis Powell tried to assassinate the secretary of state, while his buddy John Wilkes Booth did the deed with Abraham Lincoln. Powell was caught and hanged alongside three fellow conspirators. I saw a photo of Powell while I was working in a library in London round the Millennium. And thought he looked like a nice guy. His friends called him doc, because he took care of animals and nurtured stray animals back to health. A horse kicked him in the head when he was a teenager, but I don't know if that explains why he later would think assassination would be a good idea. A more probable explanation would be the war. He was wounded and captured at the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg.
And how come he looks like he is in a fashion ad?

I do read a lot of comic books. and I mean the comics that have superheroes in them. It started out reading the classics, like Spiderman (Edderkoppen), Batman (Lynvingen), Superman (Supermann), all the men (Prosjekt X [X-men]), but also the spin-offs, like Spiderwoman and She-Hulk. But I also like some of the more experimental stuff from the two big ones. Marvel. And DC.
Grant Morrison, just recently 'killed' Batman over at DC, wrote Doom Patrol from issue #19. It was fun, took some risks, and poked fun at the more generic brand of super-heroes.

H&M COMME des GARÇONS
The launch of H&M's new designer collaboration launched this week and I was pretty excited to see the stuff I had been clicking on online in the flesh. And the wool. It was ok. Nothing over the top, nothing too exciting. Kind of dull.
I got the freaking scarf, because who doesn't need a huge wool scarf in November?
I might get the fragrance, but the trench-coat and the jacket were too expensive for H&M, even with added Rei Kawakubo. The wool sweaters were nice, but didn't fit. I tried the large and it was too long and too tight. ok, so maybe I just need to lose weight.
My favorite collection would be the Karl Lagerfeld one. The jeans were amazing, they had cords, a lot of accessories and it was clean, simple, but well fitting. Who's next?
Female Vigilantes
I bought two dvd's at platekompaniet yesterday. Both 59,50 in the sale section. I didn't really think about it, but both movies revolve around women horribly wronged by other men, not relying on the official system of crime+punishment, and taking the knife, pistol, stiletto in their own hands. Jodie Foster and her husband are attacked and left for dead. Her husband dies, but Foster starts a career as a vigilante. Neil Jordan is the director, so I am looking forward to taking a look. In "I spit on your grave" a manhattanite on a relaxing get away is raped. and left for dead. She survives and exacts her horrible revenge. Having being mugged myself, but not a woman, i guess I am drawn to these types of movies.

The exhibition November 2008 is based on a careful selection of artist initiated magazines from the 70’s until today. Art magazines play an important part in the distribution of art. The drive to create new arenas for art led to a surge of artist-produced magazines in the 70’s, and the magazine-format paved the ground for experimentation with text, information, distribution and media-realities.
Artist initiated magazines enabled the artists to work outside the galleries, take control over their own production and to reach a larger audience. November 2008 focuses on how the magazine format works as an alternative exhibition space.
The represented magazines in this exhibition have in common a DIY – attitude, where collaboration and the collective is in focus. The artist group General Idea (which consists of AA Bronson, Felix Partz and Jorge Zontal) founded, in 1972, FILE megazine. FILE was not a magazine in it’s normal sense, but one of General Ideas many art – projects. By appropriating the name and the visual profile of the well-known life-style magazine LIFE, General Idea sought a broader distribution. The thought was that the magazine format itself would lead the art out to a larger audience, no matter which content. FILE was made with the kiosk newspaper stands in mind, not the secluded art audience.
At Rekord, FILE will be shown together with original editions of General Idea. Other magazines from the same time, like Art Rite, Avalanche, Interfunktionen, Real Life, ZG and the some-what later Eau de Cologne, all made use of different strategies to present the art-scene they themselves where a part of. Artists like Joseph Beuys, Lawrence Weiner, Barbara Krüger, Cindy Sherman, Ray Johnson and more often appeared in several of them.
K48’s last number Starship Counterforce will be launched in this exhibition together with a presentation of works by selected contributors: Telfar Clements, Jonah Groenboer, Jeff Konigsberg, Nicholas Messing, Slava Mogutin, Klaus Schulze, Donnie & Travis, Fatima al Qadiri and Grant Worth. Other contemporary magazines that are shown include, among others, Dexter Sinisters magazine Dot Dot Dot, RE-magazine, Charley and Permanent Food.
Scott Hug, the man behind K48, shows a constellation of his own polaroids and images taken from the magazines Time and The New Yorker in Too Much, Too Little, Too Late. Polaroids: 2002-2007. James Hoff (US) uses the magazine as a background source for his artistic practice: Sing, Sing consists of drawings taken from a Raymon Pettibon fanzine, and the publication Topten originates from Artforums top ten column.

new pokemon logo
the Norwegian mail service have a new logo. The old red horn and the king's crown are on the garbage heap. Fine. I don't know how much they paid for this:
Two circles, one red for the regular post service, and one green for business services (I think). But where did they come up with this innovative design?? How many people thought in think tanks?
Or did they just steal the look of the pokemon ball?
the ball is used for storing pokemon and now it's also the new logo for Posten.

characteristic voice, nice glasses and a hot brother. Could you be any better? Apparently. Karin Dreijer has opted for a new project called fever ray. I hope she hasn't ditched Olof.
Anyway, new projects seem to materialize for karin whenever the old one has hit a snag. Honey is Cool for the Knife and now Fever Ray for the Knife. I guess this is more of solo project and that the Knife aren't over, so win-win.
I just wish they would re-release Honey is Cool's first album, focky focky no pay. That would make my day.

Love is overtaking me is out on Tuesday 28th October. Another rummaging experience, going through Russell's archives and unreleased material. I've listened to three songs from the compilation and they seem surprisingly easy. Not as in easy listening, though the songs are a far cry from Russell's instrumental and experimental compositions. I think there are a few covers, some demos, songs from other projects, such as The Sailboats, Turbo Sporty and Bright & Early.
And the documentary is out in November, so a pleasant end to 2008 with the help of Russell.
burden bargain
I'm not the one for dumpster diving, but I love going through the bargain racks at bookstores, recordstores, comicbookstores, and so on. I found this at Astrup Fearnley Museum in Oslo and was very happy! I love Burden (he doesn't know it) and recognized this book from the library. It's a catalog he published in 1978 on his performance work from 1974 to 1977. It was 25 NOK, which isn't a lot in today's unstable kroner market. I just checked and it's actually worth 4000 kroner. Score!
I also got some other catalogs, the Chris Burden catalog from Magasin 3 Konsthall in Stockholm, Olafur Eliasson at Kunsthalle Basel and Thomas Hirschhorn at the Renaissance Society. All for 95 NOK.

It will be launched in NY on the 28th October and I'm sure it will be a rad party, but if you live in Oslo (the Norway) there will be another launch and an exhibition in November!
In New York there will be live performances by Come Rad Comrade, Brother Bruno, Tha Pumpsta, Living Days, Popular Science—featuring Tobell von Cartier and DJ set's by NYC's Kingdom, Michael Magnan, Atomly, Telfar and Fatima Al Qadiri.
The issue looks to the future, to space, to science fiction, to utopias and beyond. Anne Koch has made a light-sculpture which ships with each issue, Marc Andreottola has written a piece for the mag, there's an offer for a limited poster in the issue and the cover is all gold and black and neon=the future!

I smell good
This Tom of Finland fragrance has got me smelling all sorts of good. Karl says it smells like a leather bar. I don't know about that, but it's dark and musky, full of aldehydes and iris. mmmmmm. Inside the package/packaging there's a 'secret' drawing. In my box were two of Tom of Finland's hunky sailors with their own little boxes to take care of. I got this at Oak in Brooklyn, but I'm sure it's in all the right stores at the right price. Fragrances are hard. I bought the Tom Ford fragrance on a whim. bad whim.
My favorite of all time is one of the three dior hommes perfumes, Eau Noire, full of myrrh, violet and lavender. Heavy stuff, but oh, so good!

i do own two U2 albums, Achtung baby and Zooropa, where they stay clear of their Americana Stadium Rock and delve into concept albums. And there´s a photo of the only hot guy in the group, drummer Larry Mullen Jr, naked. It´s really tiny (the photo), but for a 14 year old aspiring guy, that´s plenty.

season 11 is about to kick off, so color me a sad shade of interested.
Are they relocating so San Fransisco? The 70s themed hippie promo doesn't really do anything for me. Both the Jays are on it, Mr and Mrs, which is a tad unusual. Maybe they'll be featured more seeing as Banks is trying to take over the world.
Bringing the show back to New York for season 10 was great, seeing as fashion lives in NY and not LA. TV lives in LA. And Heidi Klum. Which is why Project Runway is headed west for season 6. ANYWHO.
The outcome of the show seems to be more and more a product of Tyra's scheme to take over the world. Season 9 saw Tootie win after receiving guidance from Tyra in the T-Zone camp, and season 10 saw Natalie take the win. Fat girls can be beautiful too. Except that Whitney put on the pounds before the show and beefed up to take the win.
Let's see what Tybaby can come up with this time. A lesbian winner?
